In this semester, we needed to summit our CV. Since it was not my first time to write CV, I supposed it was a piece of cake for me at first. However, it became a puzzle when I assessed my current skills. As for work experience, I do have two-year experience and numbers of part time jobs, but none of them strongly connects to positions of Marketing or Advertising. To make my CV more attractive, I googled and searched for a better way of presence. Also, from one speaker of our Professional Skill, I learned one important element- make your CV different. To be honest, it is quite hard since a CV cannot be too “different” to make HR people even do not want to see. Then, I came up with an idea that the curriculum of A&M could help me let HR people understand my A&M abilities. Therefore, I built a table looking quite easy to understand, to perform my current abilities to attract them.
As a pre-marketer, I need to have a good interview skill to earn important importation. Due to the marketing research program, I got a change to start my first interview here. There are two things I improved myself.
Last week, LUBS invited an actress for the stage to teach us how to do an appealing presentation.
The below is what I mainly learnt:
Lately, we started to do our academic writing including individual and group assignments. I was too confident to think I was kind of proficient to do it before, as I thought I have practiced to do many times that when I was a college student. No matter in the UK or Taiwan, it is important to write an academic essay which is appendixed with references. However, it is quite different to write in a Harvard style, so I need to get used to write this. Harvard style is conscientious and careful.
Before I came to GB for further study, I had known that I would face with some culture clashes. However, it is still hard to face with when I am here. Culture clashes happen in class, in the teamwork, and even in my daily life. Now I just focus on our skills in class and the teamwork.
In class, it is obvious that western students are easy to raise their hands to answer questions or discuss with lecturers; on the other hand, we Asian students are too shy or too worried to express our ideas. Do we not understand what lecturers say? Not at all. Sometimes, there are a multitude of things in my mind, I still fear to offer my own ideas. First, I am afraid that my English is not good to express. Second, I am afraid that my idea is not correct. The main problem is from my personality, so I am trying to overcome. To be honest, it is not very easy to change our learning attitudes. However, if I do not start to change, I might not be able to let my supervisors or my co- workers listen to me or understand when I work in the future.
Today is my first time to reflect my academic key skills in a "real action".
After checking the table of Skills Aduit, I am really unconfident in my “I.T skill” and “referencing material skill”.
